You’ve bought a great pair of glasses but how do you look after them and clean them.
Our experts have put together these top cleaning and care tips for your spectacles to help you.
Cleaning Your Glasses
Regular cleaning of the lenses helps to keep them in their optimal state for as long as possible. A bit like brushing your teeth every day.
Use the Right Cleaning Cloth
Never use paper towels, tissues or clothing to clean your glasses lenses – these all have textured surfaces which can easily scratch your lenses. We recommend microfibre cloths. Check your glasses case – you should already have one.
Buy a Special Glass Lens Cleaner
Specifically designed for glasses, lens cleaners are an essential piece of care kit. Don’t dry wipe – debris or dust can scratch the lens if rubbed with a cloth. And don’t use bleach, vinegar, household cleaners, spit or any other chemical to clean the lenses as these can tear off lens coatings.
Nose Pads on Your Eye Glasses
Nose pads absorb dirt, dust and other natural oils so regular cleaning is essential. If you think you could do with a nose pad wash, come in anytime. Best of all – it’s free.
A few words of wisdom to help keep those glasses looking sharp
The Put on/Take Off Method for your Glasses
It’s true, there’s a right way to put your glasses on and take them off – all it requires is for you to use both hands. Only using one hand can misalign your frame, which means they don’t position correctly which means impaired vision.
Not on your Head
Frames stretch and the most common cause of stretching is resting your frame on your head.
Storing your Spectacles
Always place glasses snugly away in the glasses case. Never rest them down on a surface lens first or place them in bags or pockets as they’ll get scratched. Never leave them on hot surfaces (e.g. on the dashboard in the car in hot weather) as you’ll probably end up with a bent frame.
