OCT Eye Scans
The OCT 3D Eye Scan is an ultrasound scan of your retina, in particular your optic nerve and your macula.
An extension of the standard eye examination, a 3D eye scan allows us to look deeper into the back of the eye and spot eye related issues sooner. It can detect any significant changes to your eyes up to four years earlier than a standard eye examination, and long before you may notice any issues yourself.
- The technology is similar to an ultrasound and it can highlight early signs of common eye problems like age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetes, macular holes and detachments.
- An OCT machine takes scans of your eyes without touching them.
- The process is non-invasive and painless.
- Once you have had the scan, our expert optometrists will always discuss their findings and course of treatment where necessary.
- All your scans are stored securely as part of your records, so that when you come in for your next appointment, we can compare the images and accurately track any changes in your eye health.
The earlier an eye condition is detected, the earlier your treatment commences, with a greater chance of a successful outcome. In many cases, early detection can even prevent a condition from developing at all, maintaining your sight.
For many of our patients, this ground breaking OCT 3D Eye Scan gives them absolute peace of mind when it comes to their vision. The technology is so trusted, that there’s even an OCT eye scan machine installed on the International Space Station to keep astronauts’ eye health in check.
You’ll also be interested to know that we also are one of the few opticians in the country who can carry out a retinal imaging scan through the Optomap. OptomapⓇ ultra-widefield imaging – most tests can only capture 10-15% of your retinal image, but the Optomap sees 80% in one panoramic pass across the surface of your eye. Learn more here.
