Six Month glasses MOT

Why You Need a Six Month Glasses MOT

Why it's Important

When you invest in a pair of great glasses you want them to work for you and your eyes. With the best will in the world; even though we advise you to put them in their glasses case when you’re not wearing them and put them on with two hands, sometimes we just forget.

Servicing Your Glasses

The six month MOT is your chance to come in an allow our experts to service your glasses; securing the screws, cleaning the lenses, replace components and give them a sonic clean.

It just takes a few minutes for us to check your glasses and restore them. Many patients use this as an opportunity to tell us how they are getting on with their glasses. We can make any adjustments needed, usually on the spot.

See You Soon

So, just like a diamond ring that needs a polish every year to dazzle and shine, your glasses need an MOT to work for you.

During Covid-19 we request you call and book your six month MOT.

Great Tips On Taking Care of Your Glasses

You’ve bought a great pair of glasses but how do you look after them and clean them.

Our experts have put together these top cleaning and care tips for your spectacles to help you.

Cleaning Your Glasses

Regular cleaning of the lenses helps to keep them in their optimal state for as long as possible. A bit like brushing your teeth every day.

Use the Right Cleaning Cloth

Never use paper towels, tissues or clothing to clean your glasses lenses – these all have textured surfaces which can easily scratch your lenses. We recommend microfibre cloths. Check your glasses case – you should already have one.

Buy a Special Glass Lens Cleaner

Specifically designed for glasses, lens cleaners are an essential piece of care kit. Don’t dry wipe – debris or dust can scratch the lens if rubbed with a cloth. And don’t use bleach, vinegar, household cleaners, spit or any other chemical to clean the lenses as these can tear off lens coatings.

Nose Pads on Your Eye Glasses

Nose pads absorb dirt, dust and other natural oils so regular cleaning is essential. If you think you could do with a nose pad wash, come in anytime. Best of all – it’s free.

A few words of wisdom to help keep those glasses looking sharp

The Put on/Take Off Method for your Glasses

It’s true, there’s a right way to put your glasses on and take them off – all it requires is for you to use both hands. Only using one hand can misalign your frame, which means they don’t position correctly which means impaired vision.

Not on your Head

Frames stretch and the most common cause of stretching is resting your frame on your head.

Storing your Spectacles

Always place glasses snugly away in the glasses case. Never rest them down on a surface lens first or place them in bags or pockets as they’ll get scratched. Never leave them on hot surfaces (e.g. on the dashboard in the car in hot weather) as you’ll probably end up with a bent frame.

At Realeyes, we offer a six month glasses MOT where you can come in and have your glasses cleaned and tightened. Call your usual branch number for more information.
